Energy-efficient IT

In December 2012, the Liechtensteinische Landesbank opened its new branch office in Eschen (FL), setting future standards for the Rhine Valley region. The building complies with «Minergie-P®» standards. LLB has received provisional certification, which is valid until 2015. State-of-the-art lighting technology ensures power savings, and the waste heat of the attached Data Center is used for heating the branch office. The data processing centre demonstrates a clear commitment to «Green IT». All building elements – from the construction, to the insulation and the architectural design of the building – were carefully matched to each other in order to increase energy efficiency.

Sustainable construction is based on the functional interaction between ecology and technology and is becoming the standard. In compliance with this standard, the construction of the new LLB data processing centre permits the specific use of only single modules. The server and the cooling elements are positioned in such a way that only the computer is cooled and not the entire room. The power consumption of the cooling devices plays an essential part in terms of power usage effectiveness (PUE). We aim to achieve a value of below 1.5 PUE, which would be half the current energy usage. From mid-2013 onwards, we will therefore substantially reduce electricity consumption and CO2 emissions as well. However, we will not be able to make a comprehensive assessment of power efficiency on the basis of real power consumption before 2014.
